Roger Mayer Mongoose-X Fuzz Pedal The Roger Mayer Rocket Mongoose has been updated with additional features into the standard Roger Mayer enclosure. This brings this popular design into a modern player and pedal board friendly package.
The immense sustain at low volume and the well rounded very heavy tone has made this a favorite amongst hard rock and metal heads for over 20 years.
It cleans up superbly with guitar volume control and has great articulation between notes that encourages shredding and tapping techniques.

Mongoose History:
The Mongoose was developed in 1985 for guitarists who demand a guitar effect with lots of fat fuzz and enough bottom end to keep a metal head happy. The Mongoose also sounds as if it has a pre-set type wah voice that gives the distortion distinctive focus. It has proved popular with a wide and varied type of guitar player from Metal through Rock and Jazz. It is more modern sounding and civilized sounding than the Axis Fuzz or Classic Fuzz and has found a niche with those who want an alternative but not too radically different sound that the current range of mass-produced units from the USA, Japan and Far East produce.
Electronically the Mongoose uses a combination of both discrete and IC analogue design techniques. The clipping circuit primarily comes from a passive diode circuit resulting in smooth compression and harmonic overtones providing a smooth and transparent transition from clean to overload states. Chords sound very good and with the amazing amount of sustain available, feedback is possible at the lowest amplifier volume settings. These features have made the Mongoose popular in the recording studio and similar situations where feedback is desirable at low sound levels.
Current users include Bono (U2) and Joe Perry (Aerosmith).
FEATURES:
MULTI-MODE OUTPUTS / HARD WIRE BYPASS/ TWO BUFFERED OUTPUTS:
The Mongoose - X has a hard wire output (true bypass) plus two buffered outputs that can drive long cable lengths with no high frequency loss. These buffered outputs are disconnected when the hard wire output is being used. This means that all performance situations are catered for whether you want a true hard wire output or your situation calls for the advantages of buffered outputs.
RAPID BATTERY CHANGE:
No more screws to loose!. Slide the front panel back and there is the battery. It could not be simpler or faster.
BATTERY LIFE:
50Hrs or more using a premium grade alkaline 9 Volt type.
EXTERNAL POWER ADAPTER / SUPPLY:
An external AC adapter (not supplied) can be used and access is through a standard DC power jack situated next to the jack sockets. It uses the standard negative centre pin connection protocol used by many leading manufacturers. Internal onboard filtering ensures that optimum low noise performance is maintained and diode protection provides peace of mind in case or polarity setting mistakes.
ERGONOMIC DESIGN:
The position of the jack sockets and DC power jack are all on the same side of the enclosure and face away from you thus enabling the effect to be optimally positioned in pedal board set-ups.
